HUD Stands for Head-Up-Display. What it basically does is displaying contacts/objects
info on top of terrain map. This is very useful in orientation. Moreover, because
speed vectors are provided too, it is much easier to make up interception points
and such.
This application is an ActiveX component, that communicates with MUSHClient
over Windows Scripting Engine (WSE). Basically, data is taken from MushClient
by triggers, sent to HUD by a script file (javascript or vbscript), and finally
processed there. Specifically, contact data and damage data. Of course, because
damage and contact processing is no longer done by script, and by HUD instead,
you need to keep the HUD open for these procedures to be functional. Radio functions
are still done script-side however.
The installation process of HUD consists of a few simple steps, which are
described in the ReadMe.txt file, included in the distribution. But, there are
a few points you should be aware of. As listed above in system requirements
list, an updated version of windows scripting engine is needed. If you have
Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 or above, you already have this. If not,
you need to get this. There are two ways to get it. First way is to update your
Internet Explorer to current version, which is 5.5 SP1 as of now. Second way
is to get a WSE-only update from Microsoft web site, www.microsoft.com.
Below you will find a couple of screenshots, clicking on them will get you
a fullsize image. They are shot it 1024x768 screen resolution.
